Alaska Car Shipping
Alaska Alaska is the youngest state in the United States, and when the territory was finally granted statehood in 1958, Alaskans knew that this was indeed a battle well-fought and a statehood well-earned. From as early as 1915, the territory's inhabitants worked to encourage the United States Congress to officially grant statehood to the vast and separate territory. It was not until the early 1950s, however, that Congress even really considered granting them their wish. Really though, was statehood something supported by every Alaskan? No. Much like the first colonies balked at the control exerted over them by the English King, many Alaskans questioned the ability of a government so far away - one in which Alaska was not represented - to make decision for the welfare of Alaska. In 1955, Alaskans from across the state gathered to assemble a state constitution. This constitution was one of the formal steps involved in gaining statehood and knowing how the territory would eventually be governed from within once it did actually become a state. The fifty five elected officials who represented the Alaskans worked diligently to complete this constitution so that it was ready to be presented to the U.S. Congress as quickly as possible. In less than six months, the elected officials drafted and amended the constitution and the voters of Alaska approved it. In April of 1956 the finished and approved document was presented to Congress. A little over two years later, in July of 1958, President Eisenhower signed the documents that official named Alaska as our fiftieth state.
