Perhaps the most well known
attraction in this southern state is Walt Disney World, located in
beautiful, sunny, Orlando. The park was designed by Walt Disney to be a work
in progress, continually changing and adapting to new and evolving
technologies. His hope was that the park would be a complete community were
his ideas about urban planning and development could be put to the test,
along with new technology and gadgetry.
The original plan that Disney
had for the Florida park was the meaning behind the acronym for the EPCOT
Center that opened during the 1980s, the Experimental Prototype Community of
Tomorrow. While EPCOT Center really has little to do with the idea that
Disney had presented initially, the name was more of a tribute to his
forward-thinking ideas.
This is not the only attraction
to the coastal state, in fact the many beaches and seaside attractions draw
probably as many tourists as the Disney parks every year. Also, Cape
Canaveral - the home to the space shuttle program - draws visitors year
round!
Many other roadside attractions
are located in Florida and draw visitors in large numbers. Some of them
include Monkey Jungle, one of the first free-range monkey preserves in the
United States, the U.S. Astronaut Museum, Jungle Island in Miami and the
Daytona Speedway - home to the Daytona 500.
The climate of Florida is mild year-round and so there is not really a
tourist season in this state. People travel there throughout the year to
visit the many attractions, the beaches or simply to escape the cold weather
at home when winter arrives.
