Oklahoma
Believe it or not, Oklahoma is one of the best states right now in terms of economics. The revenue base of the state is ever growing and the economy is on a significant uphill slope. Most people probably still think of Oklahoma as a farm state. While agriculture plays a part in the economy, it is by no means the only source of income for the states population.
The key industries in the state are aviation, technology, the mining/production of coal, oil and natural gas. Because the state is very large, there are many rural areas where nearly half of the population still chooses to live. During the industrial build up in most states, a majority of the population center shifts from rural to urban areas. In Oklahoma, this was not the case.
There is a large percentage of native Americans living in Oklahoma, as the state was once the home of many different native tribes throughout history. Today, there are known to be at least twenty five different native dialects that are still spoken in the state. The reason there are so many descendants of so many tribes could be that Oklahoma was once frequently passed through on long journeys such as cattle drives, etc. As these long journeys were often hard on those making them, some people would drop out and decide to make their home along the way.
Anyone making a trip to Oklahoma should take some time to really explore the state and it's various cultures. There is a lot of American history in this state, as it is very culturally diverse and carries with it the lore and history of many different native peoples.
