Pennsylvania is one of the most beautiful states in the country, and visitors are quick to remark that the different areas of the state truly are very different from one another.  Located on the eastern end of Pennsylvania is Philadelphia, one of the most historic cities in the country. It is the largest city in Pennsylvania and has the sixth highest population of any city in the United States. Historically, Philadelphia was once the largest city among the British colonies and the largest in any British territory.

Philadelphia was one of the first areas in Pennsylvania to be settled by colonists, but it most definitely was not the only major city to be established.

Far on the other side of the state is the largest small town you will ever come across. Pittsburgh is the major city on the western side of Pennsylvania and it is ranked among the best places to live in the United States. Pittsburgh is the leading center of education in the state of Pennsylvania with many colleges and universities including the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and Duquesne University to name a few. It is also one of the leading medical communities in the country, with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, a leading research hospital and transplant center.

Even more important than these economic boosters to the people who live in Pittsburgh are the professional sports teams.  The Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins are championship football and hockey teams that have fans spread across not only Pennsylvania, but the entire world.
