Texas Car ShippingTexas The land that now makes up current day Texas was some of the most disputed in the history of the United States. At one point or another, six different countries laid claim to the land of Texas. Obviously, Spain, Mexico and France were among them. Also, there were the Confederate States of America, the United States and the Republic of Texas, which was at one time its own nation. In the early sixteenth century, Spain was the first European country to lay claim to Texas. But it was nearly a century later when the first Spanish settlement was actually established there. Spanish missionaries also began to establish missions in Texas at that time. Although Spain held control of the territory, there was a century filled with border disputes with the neighboring French and the U.S. There were also many attacks by native tribes, interested in getting back the land they saw as their own. In 1821, Texas was annexed as a part of Mexico after the end of the Mexican War for Independence. Fifteen years later, Texas was once more an independent state after the Texas Revolution. At that point, Texas was again a sovereign state. It was not until 1845 that Texas applied for statehood and became the twenty eighth state. In 1901, Texas became on of the most profitable states when oil was discovered and the oil rush started in the state. Although ranch farming is still a popular economic activity in the state, oil production and refining is the largest revenue generating activity in the state.
