Today, the state's economy is still partially supported by the agriculture industry but it is also supported by the U.S. military, technology companies, manufacturing and other businesses. Around twenty fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Virginia. The federal government is a major employer in Virginia, and many highly educated people relocate to Virginia in order to work for the federal government in areas including defense, national security and military support.
